On August 15th, Brymark Installations, in conjunction with Sterling Crane, completed a two crane, 310,000lb lift at Westshore Terminals in Delta. This lift was the second of five major lifts that will be completed during the erection of Westshore’s new Stacker/Reclaimer Number 44.

This lift presented many different challenges. Besides the overall weight, the crew had to contend with two cranes working in close proximity to each other, and the stacker/reclaimer itself. The C-Frame had to be carefully positioned on top of the slew bearing in order to prevent bearing damage and to ensure proper alignment.

The lift was completed using Sterling Crane’s Demag AC400 (500 Ton All Terrain) and Grove GMK7550 (550 Ton All Terrain). This was the second lift for the Grove, the newest addition to Sterling’s fleet.

The crew didn’t have much time to celebrate this successful lift. On Monday, August 17th, the same crew lifted the Bucketwheel Boom into position. Even though this lift was not as heavy as the C-Frame lift, installation of the Bucketwheel Boom was also very difficult. In order to install the Bucketwheel Boom, the pivot points on the Boom had to be accurately aligned with the pivot points on the C-Frame. Once aligned, the pins were inserted and fixed.

Brymark would like to thank all the talented tradesmen and operators who made these lifts a success. Working together as a team, they were able to prove once again that with planning and coordination, difficult tasks can be completed safely and efficiently.

On March 2nd, a crew of carpenters and labourers broke ground for our long awaited office expansion. Once complete, this expansion will add approximately 1,500 square feet to our office facility. The addition will include 6 new offices, and a larger boardroom. Construction is expected to last through the spring and into early summer.

During construction, it will be “business as usual” at Brymark. Our office will be open during regular business hours. Shipping/Receiving traffic will continue to enter the yard off Industrial Avenue. Visitors who access the shop and yard through the front man gate are asked to enter through the main office in order to avoid the active construction area.

Brymark Installations Group is pleased to announce its successful re-qualification for the CSABC Health & Safety Certificate of Recognition (COR), and qualification for the Injury Management/Return-to-Work COR. This achievement is the result of Brymarks’ continued focus on and commitment to a safe working environment.

The Construction Safety Association of British Columbia (CSABC) is a non-profit organization owned and operated by the construction industry of British Columbia. CSABC was created to protect the health and safety of the people who work in construction by building a culture of safety at all organizational levels. CSABC works with WorkSafeBC to develop and provide the construction industry with resources and best practices aimed at reducing human and capital costs associated with construction workplace injuries.

In order to apply for a COR, a company must provide training for all levels of the organization (Owners/Senior Management, Supervision, and Tradesmen), as well as auditor training for at least one employee. Internal audits, a comprehensive method of gauging how employees understand and utilize Health & Safety Programs, are completed annually. External audits are completed every three years. Brymark has held the COR for Health and Safety since 2005.

Lynanne Fortin, Corporate Safety Manager for Brymark, credits the “active participation of everyone in the Brymark organization” for this achievement.

“The annual achievement of the COR certification is a real testament to the commitment of the Brymark’s Team. This achievement cannot be done by one or a few people, it requires everyone from our workers on the tools right up to our General Manager to be involved, engaged and following the program. Well done everyone.”
