On August 15th, Brymark Installations, in conjunction with Sterling Crane, completed a two crane, 310,000lb lift at Westshore Terminals in Delta. This lift was the second of five major lifts that will be completed during the erection of Westshore’s new Stacker/Reclaimer Number 44.
This lift presented many different challenges. Besides the overall weight, the crew had to contend with two cranes working in close proximity to each other, and the stacker/reclaimer itself. The C-Frame had to be carefully positioned on top of the slew bearing in order to prevent bearing damage and to ensure proper alignment.
The lift was completed using Sterling Crane’s Demag AC400 (500 Ton All Terrain) and Grove GMK7550 (550 Ton All Terrain). This was the second lift for the Grove, the newest addition to Sterling’s fleet.
The crew didn’t have much time to celebrate this successful lift. On Monday, August 17th, the same crew lifted the Bucketwheel Boom into position. Even though this lift was not as heavy as the C-Frame lift, installation of the Bucketwheel Boom was also very difficult. In order to install the Bucketwheel Boom, the pivot points on the Boom had to be accurately aligned with the pivot points on the C-Frame. Once aligned, the pins were inserted and fixed.
Brymark would like to thank all the talented tradesmen and operators who made these lifts a success. Working together as a team, they were able to prove once again that with planning and coordination, difficult tasks can be completed safely and efficiently.
